Kabeer, a 15th century Sufi poet, born in Banaras (Varanasi), India had traveled the whole of north India. Not much is known about Kabeer’s discipline in spirituality, but chose to live the balanced life of a householder and mystic, tradesman and a thinker. Kabeer was married, and lived the simple life of a weaver.
I have tried to portray that Kabeer, who was connected to this world, deeply rooted in it, with all its materials and sensibility. Kabeer must have had a place for his daily experiments in the backyard of his house. I tried to create that ambiance in which Kabeer was dealing with an idea, called balance. A balance between mystic and known. Kabeer and scooter is an installation executed with many materials – from scrap to aluminum sheets, from nut bolts to colored walls, from electric lights to water capillaries and from tarpaulin to cotton. Here I break the wall of time frame and reassemble it.
It is a large kinetic work. The subject of my earlier works used to be more personal and limited to my own personal concern and interest, but this work has a broader approach.
The work is composed of many assorted objects and materials and reflects a political subject. This work is about the powerful system that is exploring the jungles for the sake of economic benefits.
The process of assembling this mammoth art piece gave me a chance to learn a lot of things and gain many experiences. After the work was completed, there were many points which I could see and analyze critically.
